As the sole product designer at an AI-driven energy management startup, I led the end-to-end redesign of the consumption dashboard, from research through a design system to engineering handoff. It shipped end of 2023 and evolved into the platform Preflet runs today.

Lack of insights on their users. They faced roadblocks on how to keep the user engaged with the platform.

Research Objectives
After meeting with the Preflet stakeholders, including the co-founder and three members of his team, we collaboratively established the research objectives. Additionally, I utilized this meeting as an opportunity to delve deeper into the assumptions they held regarding their current users. Below the 3 main objectives.

Research Approach
I began by outlining my research approach and determining which methods to employ. My initial focus was on comprehending the broader context through a market analysis, examining industry trends, and identifying key principles for effective dashboards. With a comprehensive understanding of the broader landscape established, I then shifted my attention to a more detailed examination of Preflet's existing product.

Usability testing
Following the market research, the initial step involved conducting usability testing and analyzing the existing application to pinpoint the most critical pain points and areas that require improvement.
To carry out the testing process, I evaluated the current platform with a group of 8 individuals, of whom 6 were building owners, provided valuable insights into their interactions. User Interviews
Following the insights gained from our usability test, I delved deeper into understanding the core pain points users face regarding energy consumption monitoring. Additionally, I conducted evaluative research to challenge and validate the assumptions our stakeholders held about user preferences.
This involved interviewing six building owners who had experience using energy dashboards across both commercial and residential properties. During these interviews, I explored key questions such as:
